In May of 1988, Judy Russell and a small contingent of dancers ventured to Prince Rupert for the inaugural BC Jazz Dance Competition. A unique dance competition where the prizes were cash instead of trophies. One of the stipulations for entrants was that studio names could not be used, so Judy and the girls had to come up with a non studio name for their group. Thus, Performers North was born.
In November 1997, the Performer’s North Entertainment Company became an official registered non-profit society. The mission of the society is to create and support dance opportunities for young dance performance artists in the North. More specifically, the society was created to provide financial, administrative and volunteer production support for the Performer’s North Company members at JREDC.
Membership in the Society includes, but is not limited to, parents and family of Company members, 19 years of age and older. The Society strongly encourages any studio parent to get involved!
